Hosting an Event at a Camp?

Intrigued about hosting an event at an outdoor camp? Thinking of hosting a reunion, wedding, or reception? We interviewed Ellie Molnar, Hospitality and Outreach Director of Pleasant Hill Outdoor Camp, about her best tips for hosting an event at camp!

What are the perks of having an event at camp?

One of the largest perks is that camp is typically all-inclusive with lodging facilities, kitchen, and of course, outdoor space. Camps also have a large amounts of availability when it isn't the summer season. Camps are also remote! So, if you are looking for a private event set in a gorgeous outdoor space, hosting an event at camp is for you. 

What events are welcome at your camp? 

We host a wide variety of event types with varying group sizes. Our most common reservations are for church retreats, custom camps, corporate retreats, board meetings, and reunions. We also have begun hosting weddings! We have an outdoor seating area that has been utilized for the ceremony.

What are misconceptions about having an event at camp? 

When most people hear the "outdoor camp,” they expect their experience to be very much along the lines of summer camp – everything from the housing to the activities and food. In reality, there is beautiful space and staff that has the capability to host events of nearly any style. Our camp serves a wonderful menu of homemade food and has enough lodging and property to host large and small events alike. Guests have a unique opportunity to experience nature without giving up all of the comforts of modern life.

What do you love about your job in events at camp? 

The best part of my job is the opportunity I have to cultivate and nourish relationships. I am invested in every event that takes place at our camp. I love building great relationships with our clients to ensure not only that their basic needs are met, but also that they feel truly valued and cared for during their time here. From the initial inquiry to when an event ends, the people we serve are our number one priority. I love that my position allows me to demonstrate this to our customers!

Do you have relationships with event vendors? 

We have great working relationships with a number of local vendors, particularly a wonderful local catering service we frequently use to cater some of our own events! We also love being able to schedule excursions for guests, and we have great relationships with a local horse farm and adventure center to offer guests exclusive pricing. 

What difficulty do you have with booking events at camp?

There’s so much to be said for having great visibility as an organization, and Venyou provides the opportunity to connect us with clients we may otherwise never meet! We are in an amazing location, but it is just remote enough that we rely heavily on social media and other advertising to reach potential customers. Venyou helps increase our visibility, but also makes it easier than ever for us to begin building treasured relationships and share our beautiful space!
